WHAT TO EXPECT

Our workshop is situated in the country city of Dubbo in western NSW, immersed in a growing, regional locale. Here the Saddler & Co team of artisans and shopkeepers gathers to make leather goods for customers across Australia, handling the process from rolling out hides of leather through to the delivery of complete, polished product.

Production Assistant | Leather Goods

Availability: casual or permanent part-time

The role of Leather Goods Production Assistant is suited to those with an enduring care to the quality of their work. Production assistants can expect to become adept in the workbench processes that are crucial to producing first class leather goods. Responsibilities include both the preparation of leather to support the sewing production team, and the shaping and finishing of products. Production assistants may learn key leather goods processes such as tracing, measuring, cutting, skiving, creasing, gluing, dyeing, slicking, and more.
Dexterity, steady hands, and a keen eye, are valued. But, above all, the role requires a willingness to learn new ways of doing things.
This role is open to all levels of experience and first-time applicants. Work will involve slowly building up to excellent standards of making — curiosity and persistence in exploring making processes are the most important traits.

 

Experienced Sewing Machinist | Leather Goods

Availability: permanent part-time or full-time

The role of Sewing Machinist is central to the production of leather goods. This role is suited to those with practiced attention for details, and an enduring care for the quality of their work. The responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the manufacture and hand-finishing of the Saddler & Co range of signature leather goods. This role will require dexterity, experience with industrial machine processes, in addition to working comfortably with hand tools.
Please note: experience using industrial sewing machines is a requirement of the position. Leather and sewing training in the Saddler & Co manufacturing techniques will be provided in-house to ensure the standards of brand quality and craftsmanship are well executed.

Junior Prep Assistant 

Availability: casual 

The role of Junior Workshop Assistant is suited to those with attention to detail and a curiosity about the art of making. The responsibilities will include general preparation, assembling, and basic processes involved in our leather goods production. Junior Workshop assistants will support other artisans to craft leather goods, gaining exposure to some of the key workbench processes such as tracing, measuring, skiving, creasing, gluing, dyeing, slicking, and more.
This role is open to all levels of experience and first-time applicants, ideally suited to a gap year student.
