Travel Notes | A Visit to Mudgee
Bede and Jemima take Saddler & Co on the road to Mudgee, travelling country roads to a storybook cottage of charming heritage and style. Our tried and true leather goods travel at ease, as we settle in for a few days of thoughtful comfort and local discovery.
We traverse undulating landscapes as we leave Dubbo and head towards Mudgee.
With the recent rainfall, the paddocks we drive past are a patchwork of green grass and clover. Sheep graze quietly. The tidy rows of tended vineyards lie dormant, and there is a sense of expectation that spring is just around the corner.
It’s natural to admire the beautiful renovation designed by Liv Johnson. The home unfolds with considered attention to detail and personal touch points.

The location is a quiet residential street, yet not very far away from Mudgee’s renowned food and winery scene. There is much to discover in this region for a few days, from fine dining options, to organic wineries, artisanal bakeries, and local producers. It’s always a treat for the senses.

A Few Must Do's when staying at Airdrie
Here are just a sample of our favourites places to visit in the region:
ALTHEA a ritual for our family. We always stop downtown for sourdough, selecting a delicacy from the patisserie counter, and espresso.
LOWE Family Wines and the ZIN HOUSE We love the seasonal experience of this place where dishes reflect the surrounding gardens and farmland, and wines are from the vines in-between. A glorious place to book when you have a couple of hours to linger.
The Cellar by Gilbert A boutique label by father and son team, Simon & Will Gilbert, we highly recommend a visit to taste these award winning wines. Local expertise and a passion that spans generations, we have long enjoyed their blends of handcrafted wines, set within the rural landscape.
Logan Wines We adore Logan wines (and have been a member of their wine club direct to our door, for years!). Expect whimsical labels and stories, and a joy in the making that sets this small independent winemaker apart.
Alby & Esters One of the very first places we came to, and always return when in town, is located up an alley - where the quaint, cobblestoned setting of this cafe provides a seasonal and heartwarming experience of regional fare.
Baker Williams Enjoy a tasting at this micro distillery in Mudgee. Some of our favourites are the Cafe Liqueur and the limited edition Gins on offer.
